Safety Rules!
Technology is very important in the majority of every person’s life, especially children! The internet is full of wonderful information, but it can also be dangerous. Below are some strategies to consider to keep you safe at all times. Check out this helpful video first!
1. Do NOT give out personal information!
Examples: Address, phone number, parents’ work address or phone
number without permission.
2. I will tell my parents, teacher, or an adult I trust IMMEDIATELY if something online makes me feel uncomfortable.
3. I will NEVER agree to meet someone in person I “met” online without first talking to my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting, I will make certain that it is in a public place and I will bring an adult along.
4. I will talk with my parents about posting pictures of myself or my friends online. I will not post any pictures that may be considered INAPPROPRIATE.
5. I will NOT reply to any messages that are mean or make me feel uncomfortable in any way. If I do receive a mean message, I will immediately tell my parents.
6. I will talk with my parents so that we can set up RULES for going online and using email or a cell phone. My parents should decide what time of day that I can be online, how long I am allowed to be online, and the online places I am allowed to visit. I will not break these rules without their permission.
7. I will not give out my passwords to ANYONE other than my parents and teachers. Yep that’s right…not even my closest friends!
8. I will check with my parents before downloading anything that could hurt my computer or cell phone. Downloading something dangerous can lead to an INVASION of privacy.
9. I will be a good online citizen and will NOT do anything that hurts other people or is against the law.
10. I will help my parents understand that you can have fun and learn things on-line. I will TEACH them things about the Internet, computers and other technology that they may be unfamiliar with.
